When the Plot Twists Keep Coming

Posted by Janelle Lang on

Many reading this may not have been on the journey with me last summer recounting the move to our current home at 1905 S. Dixie Hwy so I will give some backstory: When I signed the lease for our current home, we were to move in the end of August when our lease at 319 Belvedere ended. My plan was to close the month of September giving us 30 days to set the store. For once I thought I would have time to do things and have a quality of life and not feel the pressure and stress of a short turn around. Grand opening date of October 1st sounded perfect. August arrived and it became very clear the plan was not a reality and we would be lucky to get in by the end of September. In the middle of what at moments felt like a nightmare my body decided it needed to get my attention. On August 29th around 3:00 pm while I was driving back from Fort Lauderdale my chest started getting tight, legs felt heavy, my cheeks were tingling and my arms were tingling all the way to my finger tips. I am...

Pressing the RESET Button

Posted by Janelle Lang on

How can it be 7 months since I have shared the journey of the shoppe and all I am learning. Feeling compelled to blog but the energy to write has been hard to find. Over the next two weeks you will get caught up on all I have been learning since my last blog in October. Sideways is the one word to describe how life has gone since my last post. You will be relieved to know you aren’t the only one whose life is nothing what it looks like to others.     My birthday is the first day of summer – June 21st and I will be 52 (thanks for being shocked at the fact I could be a day over 40). Reflecting on life since I turned 50, a reset is in order even if life continues going sideways. My reset starts with needing to LIVE (my word for 2017) which means having a party, being social, putting myself out there and taking a risk by setting my guest list to 52 people (one for each year of life).     Speaking words of life and providing a reason to gather our community is what I want...

Lemonade from Lemons

As the delays have continued to mount with the shoppe opening in our new home I have to remind myself I wrote in this blog when announcing our new location the journey was just starting. Little did I know the journey we would be taken on.   All of our furniture and props under the big blue canvas. It has become apparent to me as the delays have mounted it has nothing to do with the construction team, they have been excellent and every Saturday morning they are there working. Each group of contractors is working hard; the superintendent is great as is his leader. I pray each day the words we have written on the walls encourage all those who work and they know the building they are working on is different and that it inspires them.   Driving down South Dixie Hwy I see buildings that were further behind in construction I did not even look at for fear they would not be ready for us to move in late August yet they are all open with businesses in them. I realize our journey includes spiritual warfare and it actually gets me even more excited. Yes I hate...

Giving Thanks When You Don't Feel Like It

Posted by Janelle Lang on

First – I hope if you are in the South Florida area you will join us for our Wall Writing Party this Sunday, October 16th. Drop in anytime between 4 pm – 5:15 pm. We will be praying for those who want to join at 5:15 pm. You will enter through the back door. There is an alley that runs behind the shoppe. It would mean a lot to have our walls filled with words of life and light. So much is going on right now the more words written the better.   Now onto today’s blog: Keeping a thankful heart right now is tough as all of my plans for the shoppe seem to being going hay wire which is adding to stress ranging from cash flow to November events at the shoppe. Managing all the vendors on my end I  keep saying “I don’t’ know when you can access the space" keeping them from planning to concern over customers forgetting us as it looks closer to 2 months from when we closed to when we open. Right now we should be in process of getting everything set for the shoppe to be open in time for our November...

The Unexpected

Posted by Janelle Lang on

So much has been happening yet so few dates have been locked down I felt there was not much to share other than “I am hoping but am unable to confirm when we are moving.” After a great meeting with my new landlord this past Friday I can now plan our move and choreograph all the other details to support what I hope will be an uneventful move. At the beginning of my one in a million journey I promised to share the ups and downs and my last post announcing our new home I stated it was truly only the beginning of the journey. So much to do in August but without set dates due to issues with the Historic Preservation Board and permitting in the new location left this “get er done” woman who likes to be ticked and tied in a precarious state. I created plans as best I could with all the to dos just waiting for hard and fast dates to update the plan and get executing but alas it has been slow in coming. I promised to be vulnerable so I share what I know many reading have gone through and for those who...
