When the Plot Twists Keep Coming

Posted by Janelle Lang on

Many reading this may not have been on the journey with me last summer recounting the move to our current home at 1905 S. Dixie Hwy so I will give some backstory: When I signed the lease for our current home, we were to move in the end of August when our lease at 319 Belvedere ended. My plan was to close the month of September giving us 30 days to set the store. For once I thought I would have time to do things and have a quality of life and not feel the pressure and stress of a short turn around. Grand opening date of October 1st sounded perfect. August arrived and it became very clear the plan was not a reality and we would be lucky to get in by the end of September. In the middle of what at moments felt like a nightmare my body decided it needed to get my attention. On August 29th around 3:00 pm while I was driving back from Fort Lauderdale my chest started getting tight, legs felt heavy, my cheeks were tingling and my arms were tingling all the way to my finger tips. I am...

Pressing the RESET Button

Posted by Janelle Lang on

How can it be 7 months since I have shared the journey of the shoppe and all I am learning. Feeling compelled to blog but the energy to write has been hard to find. Over the next two weeks you will get caught up on all I have been learning since my last blog in October. Sideways is the one word to describe how life has gone since my last post. You will be relieved to know you aren’t the only one whose life is nothing what it looks like to others.     My birthday is the first day of summer – June 21st and I will be 52 (thanks for being shocked at the fact I could be a day over 40). Reflecting on life since I turned 50, a reset is in order even if life continues going sideways. My reset starts with needing to LIVE (my word for 2017) which means having a party, being social, putting myself out there and taking a risk by setting my guest list to 52 people (one for each year of life).     Speaking words of life and providing a reason to gather our community is what I want...

1905 South Dixie Highway

Three Years Ago Today commemorates so many things for me. Three years ago I was still wondering where Shoppe 561 was going to open, biking up and down S. Dixie Highway knowing our home was waiting for us. Our current lease was signed September 1st. Now three years later I just signed a lease on our new home that is 700 plus square feet bigger and actually on S. Dixie Highway. Three years ago I had artisan possibilities but did not have one artisan – I hadn’t even connected with a lawyer to create an artisan contract. Today, I am getting ready to contact a stack of artisans who have applied to be in the shoppe and have another 8 confirmed who will be adding their products into the shop. Three years ago I hadn’t even thought about having classes or parties at the shoppe, as that was way beyond what I could manage. Now I have Brooke sourcing instructors to provide learning opportunities almost every night of the week and creating packages for birthday parties, baby and bridal showers.   The Journey Today’s lease signing is just one more step in the journey. I would be kidding myself to...

It is Well.....

First, my apologies for the silence as I kept thinking I was about to have our new location to share with you so I delayed on posting. After conversations with my landlord yesterday, we are both aligned on getting the lease signed and expect it will be beginning of week so it is my goal and mission to be able to share with you no later than next Friday, August 5th our new location. I will include all the details in the journey that have occurred in getting to the signing in my next post. Thank you for your continued patience, prayers and encouragement they are all needed and appreciated. Now to what I have been learning over the past few weeks…. Have you ever had one of those weeks were you woke up on Sunday morning and were already over the week before it had a chance to start? This past Sunday I was done in and there were a few factors but the underlying one was the lack of closure on our new location. I didn’t realize how much the lack of closure was impacting my energy level and my mind until that very moment. I didn’t want...

Ugly Beautiful Gifts = Joy

Friday was all planned out to include sleeping 8 hours. I am sick and my mom said “honey you don’t have a substitute” so I decided I better slow down and get some rest. Somehow I reasoned sleeping 4 hours a night, making a Sabbath an idea vs. reality and believing if I maintained cross fit and spin my body would keep me going but as I like to say, it failed me. My body had the nerve to say, “stop”.  I was "rested" and out the door at 9:30 am feeling on top of my to do list. I had already signed off on web pages for classes and had the first artisan instructor class info sent to my web designer to develop the template. Email for that one moment in time cleaned up! Off I was to visit my artisan blacksmith at his shop. Well I got into my car and it decided not to start. Really? I couldn’t believe it. I even did a Hail Mary prayer and God chose not to answer it the way I would have liked I started to get upset and had to remind myself I have a bike, and the...
