When the Plot Twists Keep Coming

Posted by Janelle Lang on

Many reading this may not have been on the journey with me last summer recounting the move to our current home at 1905 S. Dixie Hwy so I will give some backstory: When I signed the lease for our current home, we were to move in the end of August when our lease at 319 Belvedere ended. My plan was to close the month of September giving us 30 days to set the store. For once I thought I would have time to do things and have a quality of life and not feel the pressure and stress of a short turn around. Grand opening date of October 1st sounded perfect. August arrived and it became very clear the plan was not a reality and we would be lucky to get in by the end of September. In the middle of what at moments felt like a nightmare my body decided it needed to get my attention. On August 29th around 3:00 pm while I was driving back from Fort Lauderdale my chest started getting tight, legs felt heavy, my cheeks were tingling and my arms were tingling all the way to my finger tips. I am...

Pressing the RESET Button

Posted by Janelle Lang on

How can it be 7 months since I have shared the journey of the shoppe and all I am learning. Feeling compelled to blog but the energy to write has been hard to find. Over the next two weeks you will get caught up on all I have been learning since my last blog in October. Sideways is the one word to describe how life has gone since my last post. You will be relieved to know you aren’t the only one whose life is nothing what it looks like to others.     My birthday is the first day of summer – June 21st and I will be 52 (thanks for being shocked at the fact I could be a day over 40). Reflecting on life since I turned 50, a reset is in order even if life continues going sideways. My reset starts with needing to LIVE (my word for 2017) which means having a party, being social, putting myself out there and taking a risk by setting my guest list to 52 people (one for each year of life).     Speaking words of life and providing a reason to gather our community is what I want...

1905 South Dixie Highway

Posted by Janelle Lang on

Three Years Ago Today commemorates so many things for me. Three years ago I was still wondering where Shoppe 561 was going to open, biking up and down S. Dixie Highway knowing our home was waiting for us. Our current lease was signed September 1st. Now three years later I just signed a lease on our new home that is 700 plus square feet bigger and actually on S. Dixie Highway. Three years ago I had artisan possibilities but did not have one artisan – I hadn’t even connected with a lawyer to create an artisan contract. Today, I am getting ready to contact a stack of artisans who have applied to be in the shoppe and have another 8 confirmed who will be adding their products into the shop. Three years ago I hadn’t even thought about having classes or parties at the shoppe, as that was way beyond what I could manage. Now I have Brooke sourcing instructors to provide learning opportunities almost every night of the week and creating packages for birthday parties, baby and bridal showers.   The Journey Today’s lease signing is just one more step in the journey. I would be kidding myself to...

Setting Foot in the One in a Million Space

Posted by Janelle Lang on

Thank you for following along on my journey to find the new location for Shoppe 561. I am humbled by the messages, those letting me know you are praying, people texting me when they see a new “for lease” sign. I am thankful and understand now why God made it so clear I was to share the entire journey. The pictures below are from my trip to Montana last July when I did my century ride for Hope House Florida. I was reminded today how much zip lining down a mountain in Big Sky Montana is like my current journey. It requires me to "let go", to step off the platform trusting my equipment and my guide to get me to the next platform safely. It requires me to pay attention and reach out to catch the line I am given. God reminds me He has given me all the tools/equipment needed and He will guide me safely on this journey -- I just need to pay attention and do what He tells me to do. Today’s post from a timing perspective overlaps with my last blog post. I will try to make it clear what occurred before the...

Waiting is an Action

Posted by Janelle Lang on

“The things we manipulate we rarely get to keep”. I love this quote from Beth Moore and it rings so true in all areas of life. In the search for the new location there have been so many moments of frustration of not being able to connect with a person at either number on the sign at the one in a million location the past few months. I was tempted to ask someone connected but not having any oversight on the space for help but I knew that wasn’t the way - there was a process in place I needed to follow.  It might have gotten me some short term satisfaction but it wouldn’t have been lasting.  Soap Maker Scott is a great sounding board for me. I was thankful last Friday was Soap 101. We had this great conversation about what “doing” looks like. Knowing I am a “getter done girl” I think of doing as taking action but Scott reminded me sometimes “doing” means waiting. Waiting is an action and one of the hardest. He reminded me again the space I want is the one that God wants because otherwise we will miss out on the blessings God...
